The Future of Performance Reviews:
Moving from Accountability to Development
Chicago SHRM Members Only | Free Event
Today's employees care most about their growth and development. They want to know how they can improve their performance and the performance of their team. End of the year performance reviews are often not sufficient nor timely enough to facilitate employee growth. Live, candid feedback, similar to in-game adjustments coaches give athletes, is most useful when helping someone to adapt, adjust and grow.
Instead of looking at this process as one in which a manager rates their employee, we can change the conversation to one where the manager coaches their employee by sharing their expertise, giving actionable insights and debriefing situations. This type of relationship promotes the constant learning that will help companies and teams adapt quicker to constantly changing business needs.
- How can you optimize manager/employee one-on-ones? How often should they occur?
- How can you help managers be coaches?
- How do you give feedback that makes an impact? What doesn't work? What methods work best?
- What does it mean to give live feedback? How do you do it?
- Does more frequent feedback lead to more honest feedback?
- What impact does more frequent feedback have on your relationships with your employees?
