John S. Smith is Vice President of Coworker Services (Human Resources) for CDW, a $12B leading provider of integrated information technology solutions to business, government, healthcare and education.  In this capacity, John delivers responsibility for the strategic direction of human capital and business growth strategies, and he is charged with solving real time business performance matters for the organization.  Since joining CDW in January, 2007, John has been instrumental in the execution of CDW’s strategic business initiatives, the development of a Coworker centric performance based culture, driving overall organizational effectiveness, and building a strong Human Resources practice.  Prior to joining CDW, John spent a few years with the Pepsi-Cola Organization, and held a 13 year career at Ford Motor Company with increasing levels of responsibility, including various International and Corporate HR assignments.  During his career with Ford, he successfully drove various change management initiatives, negotiated labor agreements delivering millions in operating efficiencies and cost savings, and launched a successful greenfield credit services business.

Tamara is a D&I leader within the D&I Americas group at BP and works as a collaborative business partner and advisor to leadership in integrating D&I into their respected businesses.  Tamara manages D&I for the Downstream business segment which includes all of BP’s US refineries, marketing and sale teams, BP’s Castrol and lubricants division, and petrochemical plants.  Tamara brings close to 20 years of experience in the area of diversity and inclusion and began her career at Accenture where she worked in diversity, recruiting, and human resources.  On Accenture’s U.S. Diversity Team, Tamara led, managed, developed, and implemented diversity programs for its 25,000 U.S. employees.  Leaving Accenture, Tamara was the Diversity Leader for Crowe Horwath.  At Crowe, Tamara was responsible for all diversity related programming for the company including: firm-wide training, personnel networking/affinity groups, external relationship building, talent development, diversity recruiting and coaching.  Multicultural diversity is a passion for Tamara and between working at Crowe and Accenture, Tamara lived in Asia for 1.5 years and traveled throughout the continent.

Mr. Schreiber also is experienced in issues relating to drug and alcohol testing, the WARN Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act, military leave, wrongful discharge, employee handbooks, employment contracts, covenants not to compete, separation agreements, unemployment compensation benefits claims, and various other employment-related matters. Mr. Schreiber is experienced in traditional labor matters, including union elections, contract arbitration, and proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board.

Aaron GelbAaron Gelb is a Shareholder at Vedder Price and a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment practice area. He represents employers in all aspects of equal employment opportunity, wrongful discharge, and labor relations litigation before federal and state courts, as well as federal, state and local fair employment and administrative agencies, such as the EEOC, Illinois Department of Human Rights, Cook County Civil Rights Commission, Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board and OSHA.  Mr. Gelb regularly counsels employers regarding a variety of labor and employment issues, such as discipline and discharge, handbook and/or policy development/revision, disability accommodations, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and other types of leaves of absence, harassment, as well as other workplace investigations and management training.  He spent more than eight months as temporary in-house employment counsel for a major client.  Mr. Gelb is a member of the firm’s Associate Hiring Committee and was Chair of the 2011 Summer Program.
